James 1:3 – Verse of the Day 5/20/13

James1-3

The book of James is best understood as wisdom literature, and here it is trials themselves that lead to wisdom. Hence trials and tests are not only something that should not be a source of complaining, but they should be a source of joy (1:2)! The Bible consistently teaches that God gives us trials for a purpose. It is by persevering through them that Christian’s develop perseverance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-5).

When you experience trials and difficult circumstances do you rejoice? Why not? Ask God to give you trials and to help you persevere in order that you might grow in wisdom. Ask God for the ability to rejoice in the midst of trials and testing, and give Him thanks that He allows us to grow in this way.
