John 16:24 – Verse of the Day 6/17/13

John16-24

This verse lies at the heart of Jesus’ farewell discourse with his disciples. After promising that the Holy Spirit would come to them in order to guide them into all truth (16:13), here he unfolds further implications of the Spirit’s coming. Now their requests would be accompanied by the authority given to them as Christ’s representatives and possessors of the Holy Spirit.

God has given his Holy Spirit not only to the Church, but also to all who believe in His name. As a result we may present our requests directly to the Father, as the Spirit of Christ enables us to pray as we ought (Romans 8:26). Therefore, as you pray, ask the Lord to conform your will to His, make your requests with confidence that they will be heard, and be comforted and joyful knowing the fellowship that we have with the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit.
