Joshua 1:8 – Verse of the Day 6/28/13

Chapter 1 of Joshua deals with the divine commission for the people of Israel to inhabit the Promised Land. The first half of this commission consists of God’s calling of Joshua to lead the people of Israel on that mission. This verse comes at the end of this Joshua’s calling and is bookended by God’s command that Joshua “be strong and courageous” (1:6, 7, and 9). God’s gave his Word as the source of Joshua’s courage and the grounds of his success.

According to the Bible, true prosperity and success is not understood as the world defines it and comes only through the knowledge of and obedience to God’s Word. As you meditate on what God’s Word teaches about itself, spend some time in prayer asking God to help you trust Him, to love His word, and to seek to put its teaching into practice.
