Proverbs 1:10 – Verse of the Day 1/6/14

Proverbs 1:10 Verse of the Day

The opening chapter of the book of Proverbs consists of a prologue, a warning against temptation, and a warning against rejecting wisdom. This verse helps to orient the warning against temptation. In many ways the opening chapter is a microcosm of the book as a whole, for the best way to avoid temptation is to seek wisdom. True wisdom does not consent to evil actions.

As you pray, ask the Lord to make you wise to seek wisdom and avoid evil. Consider whether there are areas of your life where you are tempted to believe the ‘wisdom’ of the world rather than biblical wisdom, and ask the Lord for conviction and discernment in those areas. Thank the Lord that He has given you His Holy Spirit to apply His word to your heart and help you to seek the truth as you learn more and more of the Bible.

Proverbs is a great tool for raising kids, and a great Bible study to have with your kids. I really used it with my two sons whenever they were scrapping. We would sit down, I would talk to them, pray and give them a proverb to read, then we would discuss it after, then they would apologize, shake hands or hug and then they went off to play together, catching critters at the creek or playing ball.
