Psalm 14:7 – Verse of the Day 4/14/13

Psalm14-7

Psalm 14 is a song of lament regarding human wisdom. It opens with reflections upon the fallen nature of the human heart and underlines the consequences of its evil pursuits. Although strikingly similar to Psalm 53, Psalm 14 is set apart by its use of “Yahweh” rather than “Elohim” for the name of God. This emphasis on the personal, covenantal name rather than the more generic one is underscored by this verse. Zion was the location of the special presence of God for the people of Israel, and it is His presence in our lives that restores our hearts to pursue wisdom today.

God alone is the true source of wisdom. Spend some time in prayer asking forgiveness for ways in which you seek wisdom in ways that are contrary to God’s desires, and praising God for his amazing love in revealing Himself to us in order that we might know the truth. Thank Him for his presence in your heart, and ask Him to help you grow in wisdom as you grow in your relationship with Him.
