… And they certainly are characters!

Enjoy the first 5-ish minutes of DVD #1: “In the Beginning”

PHIL

Hello there, I’m Phil Vischer. And I’m here with my friend Buck Denver…

BUCK DENVER

That’s me! Buck Denver! “Man of news!!”

PHIL

Um – right. And we’re here to take you deep inside the most amazing book ever written!

You know, since Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press around 1440, millions of different books have been printed. And of all those books – one has sold more copies than any other, and has been translated into more languages than any other, and has affected the world more than any other.

IAN

Oh! I know what it is!

PHIL

Hmm? Oh – hello, Clive and Ian!

IAN

I know what it is!

CLIVE

Introduce yourself first.

IAN

I’m Ian!

CLIVE

And I’m Clive, his brother!

IAN

And I know what it is!

PHIL

All right Ian – tell us! What is the best-selling, most influential book of all time?

IAN

Pat the Bunny.

CLIVE

Ian!

IAN

Goodnight Moon?

CLIVE

Oh for heaven’s sake!

IAN

Hop on Pop? Green Eggs and Ham?

PHIL

Those are all good guesses, Ian, and they’re all good books – in fact I own every one of those and enjoy them quite a bit. But none of them are the best-selling, most influential book of all time.

No, that honor would go to this book.

IAN

It’s as big as my head!

CLIVE

And that’s saying something.

IAN

What is that giant book?!?

PHIL

This – is a Bible.

And THIS is a Bible.

And THIS is a Bible.

And THIS is a Bible.

IAN

That looks like a phone.

PHIL

It is. It’s my phone. BUT on my phone are TWO different versions of the Bible!

IAN

I’ve got Tetris on my phone.

It’s kinda fun…

CLIVE

I think you’re missing the point.  We’re talking about the Bible!

PHIL

Ahem. Right. The Bible has been translated into more than 2000 languages and dialects, making it the most translated, most influential, best-selling book in the history of the world!

IAN

And I thought Tetris was popular…

PHIL

And that’s why we’re going to take you from one end of the Bible to the other, in our new show – “What’s in the Bible – with Buck Denver!”

IAN

Catchy title! But shouldn’t it be “What’s in the Bible with Clive and Ian?”

CLIVE

That has a nice ring to it!

BUCK DENVER

What? No one wants to see “What’s in the Bible with Clive and Ian!” They want to see “What’s in the Bible with Buck Denver! Man of News!”

IAN

Well, who made you the king of the … Bible shows?

BUCK DENVER

Phil did! When he put my name on the cover!

PHIL

Now, guys – let’s not argue… this is a show about the Bible!

CHUCK WAGGIN

Hey y’all!

PHIL

Oh – hi Chuck Waggin.

CHUCK WAGGIN

You can’t do a show about the Bible with Yankees and Brits! You need someone from the buckle of the Bible belt! Someone with a GEEtar – who can sing songs like this!

(sings)

Oh the Bible is a book with about a million pages Don’t try to read it all at once, you’re better off in stages!

Don’t drop it on yer foot, or yer toes are gonna ache. Keep it clean and neat and warm and dry for goodness sake!

PHIL

Uh… Chuck Waggin, I don’t know…

CHUCK WAGGIN (singing)

Oh the Bible is a book with a zillion million words! You can read it all in Hebrew but it’s gonna sound absurd

They were readin’ it in Jesus’ day and we still read it now If your Bible’s made a’ leather it smells sorta like a cow!

Oh the Bible… Oh the Bible… Oh the Bible is a real important book on the shelf! Oh the Bible… Oh the Bible… It’s time to bring it down and take a look for yourself!

It’s time to take that book down from the shelf!

SUNDAY SCHOOL LADY

Oh for the love of Henrietta Mears!

Buncha fellas can’t teach the Bible all by themselves! It takes a lady’s touch! Especially if that lady is a professional Sunday School teacher.

PHIL

Hi, Sunday School Lady!

SUNDAY SCHOOL LADY

Hello, dear. Welcome to “What’s in the Bible with Sunday School Lady!”

IAN

That’s ridiculous!

CLIVE

Who said SHE could come?!?

AGNES

Good heavens, Winnifred! Only two minutes in and it’s already a train wreck!

WINNIFRED

Yes, Agnes. Should I change it?

AGNES

No! I love it! This is more fun than American Idol!

BUCK DENVER

… with BUCK DENVER!! MAN OF NEWS!!!

CHUCK WAGGIN (singing)

If you only talk to Yankees your theology is saggin’ … so you better learn yer Bible with a fella like Chuck Waggin!!

SUNDAY SCHOOL LADY

I’ve got a Magic Flannelgraph!!

PHIL

Hold it! Hold it! HOLD IT!!

We’re teaching the Bible – which says an awful lot about cooperation, and sharing, and getting along with each other.

IAN

Is that true?

CLIVE

I’m afraid he’s right.

SUNDAY SCHOOL LADY

Good point.

Why didn’t you catch that, Magic Flannelgraph?

Sleeping?!? Your eyes were wide open!!

PHIL

SO – we’re going to go through the Bible TOGETHER. All of you can help.

BUCK DENVER

But… what do we call it?

PHIL

We already have a perfectly good name.

Welcome to “What’s in the Bible – with Buck Denver!”

CLIVE

And friends?

PHIL

“… and friends.”

AGNES

Five bucks says they don’t make it past Leviticus.

WINNIFRED

You’re on.

I have Tetris on my phone and it’s kinda fun…..luv the entire idea

  2. I love the video. The entire video series will obviously be awesome! Only 2 weeks left to wait to see the whole thing.

Praise God for His awesome faithfulness and the creativity He gives to His children.

My children love reading the Bible every night before bed.

I am so excited about this new tool to help my children learn God’s truth from the Bible in such a fun but real way!

My family purchased the first two DVDs as soon as they came out. We don’t have “television” (that it, we have a television but only hooked up to a DVD player — by design) and so we are always on the look out for quality DVDs for our kids. Well, actually, our daughter (4 1/2) as our son is only one. The 4 1/2 year old is like a sponge and often rambles off/acts out what she sees and hears. We were hoping the DVD would provide her with some good information about the Bible and in a way that would make it fun for her, and would “stick”. It is a little “old” for her as the pace moves really quick, but we figure with repetition and discussion it will end up a great resource. Love the mix of media approaches (puppets and cartoons) and the humor is funny (though some assumes a person agrees with contemporary culture to the point that you can make puns and parodies about it — we had to explain why the boy was watching a DVD in a car — something we have vowed never to do [we talk, and sing songs] and I believe there is a comment about American Idol [never watched it]). My daughter already remembers “there’s 66 books in the Bible” and “Genesis means ‘beginning’” after the first run through. And, our new favorite song is the theme song — and after singing it with her ending with an extended “WITH BUCK DENVERRRRRRRRRR!…” I am praying Phil can continue production of the whole set.

  5. This looks incredible…can’t wait!!

  6. Carla Alberda

Love, love, love the trailer…Can’t wait to get the dvds. I think our whole youth group needs to see these.

  7. Linda Coltrin

I agreee with and would bet on that they don’t get through Leviticus!!! Just too funny as I have been doing devotions daily in that Book and phew! can’t wait to move on to another book. God bless you and your work! I would love to offer up a traveling copy for our Pioneer club kids but I would wonder if that is ethical?

  8. Val Sutorius

Hilarious, fast paced, informative fun! What a great way to teach Bible literacy to EVERY AGE 0 to 110 years old. I minister to high school and college age students many of them are not believers, yet they love Veggie Tale characters and are able to sing the songs. I can hardly wait until the teens see “What’s in the Bible?” All glory to our good God who blessed Phil Vischer and crew with much talent!

  9. Diane

i teach kindergarten SS, i think the kids could get a lot of this. exciting tool.. maybe i could pass it on to the teens too !!

  10. Cheryl Blue

    I can’t wait to order………yeh hah….

  11. Stacie Donaldson

You had me at “Oh, for the love of Henrietta Mears!” I’m going to love this!

I am a Director of Education. I was excited to learn about a new DVD resource as the children and youth at my church seem burnt out on Veggie Tales. I continue to be disappointed with the role women/girls play in productions like these. Could not one of the “main characters” been female? I am now left to decide if i will use this resource for my classroom thus allowing the girls in my class to feel left out.

  13. Melanie

Thanks for sharing your thoughts … We are debuting a new girl character, Marcy, in DVD 3 and hopefully she will alleviate some of your concerns!

  14. Evelyn

I cannot wait for a curriculum to go with this set of info-packed DVDs! My whole family enjoyed watching this (grades 4 – 11), and all voted it the next curriculum we should do with our kids’ ministry on Sunday mornings. I direct the K – grade 5 program — we are presently meeting in a theatre, so the DVD format is perfect — and have been looking for something like this for several years now. This is too fantastic not to use! Don’t know if I can do it justice, but I think I would try to set up curriculum around it if there is nothing in the works from Phil Vischer. God bless you with all the creative energy and resources you need to complete this project!! And please, if there is anything to go with this set of DVDs, please let me know!

This looks like a super series and can’t wait to possibly use it as our homeschooling Bible curriculum. One aspect I’ve noticed about most church Sunday School curricula is a a real lack of ethnic diversity. Our adopted daughter is African-American, and I rarely see main characters that represent her skin color, voice intonation, hair style, etc.

  16. Joe

Love this intro. Especially like the blue haired lady who says, “Five bucks says they don’t make it past Leviticus.” hahaha

I’m a Bible lover, and love to teach my boys the entire book, not the same old tired stories they’ve heard over and over.

    Phil, I think you’re awesome.

  17. Wesli

LOV it!its sooooooo funny!i want it to stay that way. Sincerly, wesli
