Psalm 31:1 – Verse of the Day 7/15/13

Psalm 31 is a song of lament in which David cries out to God to deliver him from his enemies. Jesus quoted from verse 5 when he cried to the Father from the cross, “Into your hands I commit my spirit.” David claimed the righteousness of the Father as his refuge, prefiguring the way that Jesus would also die to demonstrate the righteousness of the Father in obtaining our salvation. Now we can take refuge in Him as well.

When we feel shame and trouble we turn to many things for protection, but God calls us to rely on Him. Spend some time in prayer confessing your need for God’s protection. As you pray remember that God has promised to be with us always.
