John 1:12 – Verse of the Day 4/10/14
What does it mean to have the right to do something? If you have a ticket, you have the right to enter a stadium for a game. If your name is on a bank account, you have the right to use the money. If you pay for food in a grocery store, you have the right to take it home with you. Some rights might be sort of trivial, but others are not. Human rights are a pretty important thing. So is the right to be a child of God.
So what gives us the right to be God’s children? Well, John teaches us that we aren’t naturally born that way and that there is nothing that we can do to earn it. Instead, we become children of God when we receive the gift of faith.
So what are the privileges that come from being a part of God’s family? Make a mental list of all the privileges we receive when we become God’s children, and then spend some time in prayer thanking God for the wonderful gifts he gives us as our loving Father.
