1 Corinthians 10:13 – Verse of the Day 7/5/14
Can you imagine what it would be like to run a marathon (26.2 miles!)? Think about what it would be like to have already run 15 miles and have more than 11 left to go. What would be like to dig down deep and finish the race?
In the chapter from which this verse is taken, Paul used running a race as an example to help explain the nature of the Christian life. He explains that many trials await us in the Christian race, but we are called to trust in Christ rely on Him in order to finish the race. This verse is Paul’s conclusion to this section. Just as God provided for Old Testament believers, he continues to do so today, and so we can trust Him and persevere when we are tempted to sin.
Where do you turn when you are tempted to sin? It is easy to grow impatient as we long for God to deliver us from our present trials and temptations. Yet He is always with us and He always gives us the strength we need to follow Him. Spend some time in prayer thanking God for his presence with us and asking Him to help you be faithful as you rely more and more upon Him.
