1 Corinthians 16:13 – Verse of the Day 4/25/2014
If you are ever tempted to think that having faith in Jesus means just sitting around, this verse will set you straight pretty quickly. This is one of Paul’s closing instructions to the church in Corinth, and his final instructions are anything but passive. Here we see that Christian faith requires courage and strength. We have to be on our guard in order to stand firm. A life of truth faith is difficult and dangerous. Why do you think it was so important for Paul to tell us this? Why did he save it for the end?
Part of the reason is that it is so easy to think that faith is something we do part of the time when we think about it. It’s something that happens on Sundays, or maybe when we pick up our Bibles. Quite on the contrary, this verse warns us to be ready all the time and to realize that living as a Christian in this world requires constant vigilance. Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to give you the courage and strength to be on your guard for Him, and to build up your faith so that you will be ready when trials come.
