1 Peter 1:8 – Verse of the Day 2/28/15
How would it feel to be put in jail for your faith? Do you think you would be able to stay strong if someone told you that they would only let you out of jail if you rejected Jesus? This is a reality that many Christians around the world face today, as they have since the time of Jesus. What hope do we have to face such persecution?
1 Peter is a letter written to early Christians experiencing exactly this sort of thing. The first chapter, the starting point of this verse, opens the letter by describing the certainty and the glory of salvation in Christ. The glorious hope of salvation gave the persecuted early Christians joy, just as it continues to comfort us today. Faith in Christ leads to hope and joy.
Do you ever struggle with uncertainty or lack of joy? Spend some time in prayer reflecting on the gift of God’s presence, and thinking about what it will one day be like to fully see Christ in all his glory. Ask God to help you experience His presence in the way He has promised and to give you hope as you experience it.
