1 Peter 5:7 – Verse of the Day 9/30/13

Peter 5:7 Verse of the Day

1 Peter concludes with a series of exhortations to the elders and young men in the churches. Apparently there were conflicts between them as they attempted to negotiate difficult circumstances that included both suffering and persecution (5:1-11). Having encouraged them by reminding them of the biblical qualities necessary for Christian maturity (verses 1-4), Peter then challenges them to seek humility (verses 5-6), and finally to take their anxiety to the Lord.

It is tempting to feel alone at times. The difficulties of life can make it feel as if the Lord is not with us. Just as the disciples wondered whether Jesus cared about them when he slept during the storm that put them in danger on the Sea of Galilee (Mark 4:38), we are tempted to do the same. Spend some time in prayer, asking the Lord to remind you of His promises not only to care for us, but to protect us and to grow us through difficulties (Romans 5:3-5). Take your anxiety to the Lord in prayer.
