1 Thessalonians 1:6 – Verse of the Day 1/15/14
After emphasizing the role of the Holy Spirit in making the Thessalonian believers imitators of God, Paul goes on in the following verse to encourage them by recounting how other believers in Macedonia and Achaia had come to God by imitating them. Paul’s point is that as our faith restores the image of God in us that was damaged through our Fall into sin, we become a light for others to hear and believe the Gospel as well. The point is not that our living is itself a proclamation of the Gospel, but that a transformed life is a testimony to the power of the Gospel message.
Spend some time in prayer thanking God for restoring His image in you. Pray that you would be a light for others in order that they might hear, believe, and be restored as well. Ask the Lord to challenge you to share the good news that He has given to you, and to live a life that reflects your belief in that good news as a testimony to others.
