2 Corinthians 5:17 – Verse of the Day 7/17/13

2-Corinthians-5-17

Paul captures two central themes from all his letters in this short verse. First, our salvation comes from being “in Christ.” All those who have been justified by faith have been united to Christ and therefore have full communion with the risen savior (see also Romans 8:1). Second, this union with Christ transfers us from one age to another. We are now new creations, no longer condemned for our sins but made glorious through Christ’s redemption.

Although the Bible consistently teaches us that by faith we are new creations in Christ, we consistently forget this reality. As you pray, ask God to help you to remember that you have been redeemed from your old self and that you have been given a new heart. Pray for the strength to and the perseverance to remember this reality when you are tempted to forget who you are in Christ and live as if these wonderful realities are not true.
