2 Peter 1:4 – Verse of the Day 6/5/13
Along with verse 3, this verse serves as the introduction to a section where Peter encourages his readers to seek spiritual maturity. Peter grounds this encouragement in the promises of God, especially the promise of union with God. A superficial reading of this verse might lead to the conclusion that believers themselves participate in God’s divinity, but read in context the verse more likely refers to a communion of the believer with Christ that produces a union of desire and will (as in Romans 8:29, Ephesians 4:24, Colossians 3:10, etc.).
What an amazing gift that we as sinners are invited to have communion with God! As you pray, ask that God truly would align your desires with His own. Give thanks that he has promised to do this, and pray with the confidence that comes form being united to Christ!
