Colossians 2:6-7 – Verse of the Day 2/3/14
Paul’s letter to the Colossians explains the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus. The first half of the letter explains the nature of Christ’s supremacy and the second half of the letter explains the implications of that supremacy for believers. In between, Paul clarified the nature of his ministry to the Colossians by warning them to beware of false teachers who might tempt them to rely upon works and extra-biblical rituals rather than faith for their salvation. Paul’s point is that just as we have been saved by grace, we are also enabled to grow in our relationship with God by God’s grace. Jesus is sufficient for all things, and so we should place our faith in him for all things.
Spend some time in prayer worshiping the God who is absolutely supreme and sufficient for all our needs. Thank the Lord for saving you and ask Him to help you to trust Him to change those areas of your life where you struggle to trust and follow Him. Pray that the Lord would protect you from the temptation to think that you can earn your status before God, and thank Him that your relationship with God is a gift that you cannot earn, and therefore that you cannot lose.
