Colossians 3:12 – Verse of the Day 5/2/14
Why do you think people always say things like “The clothes make the man” or “Dress to impress?” What do they mean, and where did those sayings come from? Is there any truth in statements like that? Anything dangerous?
The first thing that God did for Adam and Eve after they sinned in the Garden of Eden was to cover them with animal skins. Then he promised them that a savior would come to crush Satan, sin, and its consequences. Why do you think he did that?
The New Testament frequently talks about being “clothed” with righteousness. This verse tells us to “put on” the various gifts of the Holy Spirit. The rest of the chapter tells us to “put on” Jesus. Spend some time in prayer thanking God that he takes away our sin and clothes us in his own righteousness through faith in Christ. Ask the Lord to help you find your identity not in what you wear on the outside but the spiritual clothes that are of infinite and eternal value. Consider the various attributes listed in this verse and if there is one where you particularly need to grow ask the Lord to help you in that area.
