Deuteronomy 6:6 – Verse of the Week 5/16/14

Deuteronomy 6:6 Verse of the Week

Human memory is a funny thing. Sometimes we remember the most random and insignificant things so clearly. Little details about specific events stand out in our minds and can remember them perfectly. Other times we forget very important things. We can cram a lot of information into our brains for a test, only to completely forget it a few days later. Some people even write books about memory tricks that help people to remember as much as possible.

When the people of Israel were ready to enter the Promised Land, Moses worried that when life was good and easy they would forget all the wonderful things God had done for them when He rescued them from Egypt. In this verse he encouraged them to remember God’s command to write His words on their hearts so that they wouldn’t forget His amazing salvation.

Spend some time in prayer, asking the Lord to impress His words on your heart so that you will not forget them when life gets difficult. Consider how you can spend time reading and memorizing the Bible regularly in order to accomplish that goal. Ask Him to use your memory of the Bible to encourage you as you think about it each day.
