Ecclesiastes 11:8 – Verse of the Day 4/3/13

Ecclesiastes11-8

The book of Ecclesiastes belongs to a genre of writings called “wisdom literature.” The contrasting of true and false perspectives is a frequent tool of this literature. The author of Ecclesiastes structures the entire book around the perspective of the one who trusts God in contrast to the viewpoint of the one who does not. The person who does not trust God must rejoice when she can, for life is ultimately “vanity” or “meaningless,” but as Christians we really can find hope in the here and now because we have the promise of eternal life with God.

Even as Christians, we are frequently tempted to believe that our lives are meaningless and that we have no hope. Spend some time thanking God for the gift of eternal life that makes everything we do worthwhile. Ask God to help you life your life today in light of its eternal significance.
