Galatians 2:20 – Verse of the Day 4/24/14
Can you think of a time when you have been closely “united” to someone? Sometimes we think this way about a sports team, like when a team comes together so well that the sum of the parts is much more than the skills and abilities of the individual members and they beat a team with much superior talent. The unity of the team leads to a success that is greater than could be achieved by the individuals.
This example just gives us the tiniest sense of what it means to be united to Jesus. Of course, the big difference is that everyone on the team has to contribute. With Jesus, it was he who was crucified on the cross, and we get all the benefits even though we didn’t contribute anything. We were not crucified, but we were crucified with him because we have been united to him through faith. Praise God because Jesus was crucified in your place for your sins that you might be forgiven!
And now we are called to live by faith, because Jesus lives in us. Our unity did not end with the crucifixion! In fact, our unity began there. Spend some time in prayer considering how you can live in a way that reflects the fact that Jesus lives in you.
