Galatians 2:20 – Verse of the Day 7/24/13
In this verse, Paul simultaneously captures two truths that informed his response to Peter’s failure to treat the Gentile Christians in the same way that he treated the Jewish Christians. First, Paul emphasizes that our union with Christ brings with it the benefits of his life, death, resurrection, and ascension. We are forgiven and made righteous because we have been crucified with Christ. Second, Christ now lives in us and so we have been saved in order to live for him. Salvation is not just an idea or a story about the past, but a reality that should shape every aspect of our lives as well.
Spend some time in prayer thanking God for the wonderful truth that we have been crucified with Christ. We have received a salvation we did not deserve as a result of God’s sacrifice for us. As you thank God for this wonderful gift, pray that he would help you to live for Him in every area of your life, and consider specific ways that you might do this more faithfully.
