Hebrews 10:25 – Verse of the Day 4/18/13

 
The early Christians were frequently persecuted for their beliefs, and therefore gathering for worship could literally be dangerous (see 10:32-34). As a result, it would have been especially tempting for them to avoid gathering publically with other Christians in order to avoid danger. In spite of this, the author of Hebrews encourages his readers to continue to gather together (for worship). The assumption of the Bible is always that it is impossible to have Christ for a head without being a part of His body.

Do you value the gift of being a part of Christ’s body? Our own reasons for choosing not to gather together with other Christians rarely include persecution; typically they are much more trivial. As you pray, give God thanks for Christian fellowship and ask Him to teach you how you may be more of an encouragement to the body of Christ.
