Hebrews 11:1 – Verse of the Day 2/27/15
Do you ever think about how the people in the Old Testament were called to have faith in God but they lived before the time of Jesus? It is so much easier for us to hope in God because we know the whole story. We do not just look for a Messiah to come but we know that God himself, Jesus Christ, took on flesh and lived, died, and was raised again so that we might receive eternal life.
This verse opens the account of Old Testament examples of faith. The people of the Old Testament were certain of God’s promises even though they never experienced their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus. How much more certain should our faith be now that we have witnessed Jesus’s perfect life and death on our behalf?
As you pray, ask the Lord to strengthen your faith and eliminate your doubt. In a world that sees doubt and skepticism as a virtue, the Bible counter-culturally teaches us to believe God’s promises with hope and conviction. Ask the Lord to help you remember His faithfulness in the past and to trust His provision in the future.
