Hebrews 12:2 – Verse of the Day 5/31/14
Can you remember a time where you just couldn’t take your eyes off of something? For some it might be the first time they saw the Grand Canyon. For others maybe it was a particularly spectacular sunset. I would imagine that viewing the Earth from outer space would be incredible. Some things just capture our attention and we can’t turn away.
The author of Hebrews believes that Jesus should be like this for us. We can’t physically see him, but the eyes of our faith should be fixed on him. When we realize what it means that the God who created this world took on human flesh in order to live and die for sinners who rejected him… that should command our attention!
At the same time, life is full of distractions that might cause us to place our eyes on something other than Jesus. Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to encourage you and to help you see the infinite beauty and love of the one who saved you from your sins. Ask for the faith to fix your eyes upon Him. Ask him to change you more and more to be like him.
