Isaiah 26:4 – Verse of the Day 7/19/14
Have you ever taken the time to look closely at the rocks in a river? It is amazing how the constant flow of water over time has the power to smooth out and make a path through even the largest of rocks. Rocks may be one of the strongest and most solid objects in nature, but even they will not last forever. In this verse Isaiah points out that while the image of a rock communicates something about the strength of God, it cannot paint the full picture because God is eternal. His is like an eternal rock that cannot be moved, shaken, or worn.
This verse lies in the middle of a series of songs Isaiah sings about the past and the future. In the midst of difficult circumstances, Isaiah points to God’s power to save in the past as a source of confidence that He will continue to do so in the future.
Isaiah reminds us that we should “Trust in the Lord forever,” because his character and love are solid as an eternal rock.
God is always faithful and never changes. He is worthy of our trust. As you remember God’s faithfulness, ask for the ability to patiently wait for His future salvation so that you will be prepared to face whatever difficulties life may present in a way that honors and pleases Him.
