Isaiah 9:6 – Advent Verse of the Day 12/21/13

Isaiah 9:6 Advent Verse of the Day

In the Bible, prophecy frequently has an immediate fulfillment as well as an ultimate fulfillment.  The immediate fulfillment is often a “type” of the ultimate fulfillment in the person of Jesus.  Isaiah’s prophecy refers immediately to the throne of David, which was threatened by the Assyrians, but God had promised would never fail, and in fact that salvation would come from a “Son of David” (II Samuel 7).  Of course, Jesus is the ultimate referent of these titles, which are frequently cited by the authors of the New Testament.

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is the story of the coming of Jesus to reign on a throne of grace.  Give praise to your wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and prince of peace.  Thank Him for the certainty of a salvation that was foretold long before the birth of Jesus and could never be in doubt.
