James 2:17 – Verse of the Day 4/27/14

Martin Luther is famously remembered for saying that we are saved by faith alone, but the faith that saves is never alone. A faith that does not lead us to follow Christ and love others is not a true faith. True faith is a gift from God that leads us to live for Him.

If thinking about that makes you feel convicted, that is probably a sign of true faith too! The ordinary way that the Holy Spirit helps us to grow in faith is by making us more and more grateful for the forgiveness that we have through faith in Christ. As we become more aware of our sin, we become more aware of how much God has forgiven us, and it is this sense of God’s love and forgiveness that is the true source of good works.

So the best way to grow in faith is to ask the Lord to make you more aware of your sin. Remember how much the Lord has forgiven you and ask Him to show you how you can live more faithfully in response to all He has done for you!
