John 1:1 – Verse of the Day 5/3/13

 
In these opening lines of John’s Gospel, he evokes the first lines of the Genesis creation narrative. Just as God was in the beginning of creation, He now takes the initiative in redemption as well. Moreover, John emphasizes the Trinitarian nature of the Christian God. Jesus is the Word of God who was present at the creation of the world and now enters into it by taking on human flesh.

Christianity is unique in that it affirms a transcendent and holy God entirely distinct from the creation, who at the same time took on flesh and entered into the creation in the person of Jesus. What an amazing picture of God’s love for us that He would enter into this world to save us when we had rejected Him. Spend some time in prayer, praising and thanking Him for his love and mercy.
