John 14:1 – Verse of the Day 7/20/14
If you think about it, Christians today are in a radically different position from Jesus’s disciples. Think about how the disciples must have felt in the days leading up to Jesus’s death. What must they have thought when Jesus began telling them that he had to die? What would they have felt when it actually happened? They did not understand what was going to happen, and they were confused and desperate when it did.
On the night he was betrayed, Jesus spoke words of comfort to his disciples, beginning with this very verse. Although they did not fully understand it, we can understand it because we know that Jesus had to die in order for our sins to be forgiven, and most importantly that he did not stay dead. The disciples struggled to trust God as they waited to see what would happen. While we often struggle to trust God, as those who know and believe in his resurrection from the dead we should have all the more reason to wait patiently for him to return!
God tells us to trust Him and wait for Him when our hearts are troubled. We have no need to fear, because we know that God will ultimately make all things right through the work of our savior, Jesus. Ask the Lord to help you believe that and wait patiently for His good will to be done.
