John 14:27 – Verse of the Day 1/30/15
It is common for people to talk about the goal of world peace. Even famous athletes and Miss Americas talk about it as a goal. Yet even though we talk about it all the time, it seems like we are less and less likely to experience it. The world is filled with as much conflict, war, and hardship as ever.
In the Bible, however, we are given a reason to hope. Before Jesus was arrested and crucified, he spoke these words of comfort to his disciples. The peace that Jesus gives to us comes through the work of the Holy Spirit, and we have the promise that one day Jesus will return to set all thing right and make a final peace. While we wait, we have the presence of Jesus in our hearts because his Spirit lives within us.
If God is with us, who can be against us? As you pray, thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord to help you remember that he is always with you and that he will never forsake you. Pray that He will remind you of this wonderful truth when you are tempted to doubt and when you are tempted to sin. Praise the God who does not remain distant but dwells with His people to give us joy and peace!
