John 4:24 – Verse of the Day 7/2/13
This verse comes at the climax of Jesus’ conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. Having offered her the “living water” Jesus goes on to explain that while Jerusalem was the earthly place of worship under the Old Covenant (contrary to the Samaritan belief that denied God’s special presence in the Jerusalem Temple), under the New Covenant God’s presence is no longer confined in this way. The coming of God’s Spirit meant that true worship was no longer tied to a particular place but rather directed towards Heaven.
As you spend time in prayer, thank God that His Spirit is not confined geographically but dwells in us as believers. Thank Him even more for the gift of gathering for worship with other believers and the beautiful reality that, regardless of our earthly location, when we worship we are transported into Heaven to commune with the living God.
