Matthew 7:7 – Verse of the Day 7/29/13

Matthew-7-7

This famous verse comes towards the end of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. After speaking these cherished lines, Jesus goes on to teach his followers that we should ask God boldly for his “good gifts,” and it is clear from the context that those gifts refer primarily to the characteristics described throughout the Sermon on the Mount: wisdom, humility, purity, sincerity, and righteousness. While these gifts are a benefit to those who possess them, even more importantly they are a blessing to others. Therefore we are to ask God boldly to give us the spiritual gifts and maturity to be a blessing to others in His Kingdom.

Spend some time in prayer boldly asking God to give you these gifts of Christian maturity so that you might be a blessing to others. Consider areas of your life where you fall short of God’s standard for theses character traits and ask for forgiveness where necessary. As you repent, revel in God’s twofold promise of forgiveness and development of Christian maturity.
