Matthew 9:21 – Verse of the Day 9/30/14
Have you ever known someone who thought they were more important than they really were? Or maybe you know someone who thinks they are more deserving of praise an attention than they really are. It is easy to recognize this problem in other people, but sometimes it is much harder to see it in ourselves. We all think we are pretty deserving, whether we really are or not.
The Bible is full of stories of people who thought very highly of themselves, like they deserved God’s favor because of how good, or nice, or special they were. The woman in this verse was completely different though. She did not try to catch Jesus’ attention, and she did not try to cause a fuss. She knew he had the power to heal, and she just touched his cloak, hoping that he would not notice. In fact, Jesus did notice, and what he noticed was her faith.
As you pray, ask the Lord to give you the same faith of this woman, a faith that realizes that you are undeserving of the great and wonderful mercy of God. Pray that you would trust God to heal all of your sin, and especially the areas where you are tempted to be prideful and think you don’t need Him.
