Philippians 1:6 – Verse of the Day 9/2/13
Paul’s statement in this verse is clear and emphatic: when God begins the work of salvation in us it cannot fail to come to completion. This helps to provide the context for his statement later in the book that we are to “continue to work our salvation with fear and trembling” (2:12). Paul’s point is that faith is a gift of God given freely to us, and that gift is the source of our growth in faith. This growth is the work of God, but we are also called to respond to and participate in it!
As you pray, thank God for the gift of salvation and for enabling us to grow more and more into His perfect image. Pray that you would have the heart and the strength to respond to God and grow in Christian maturity. Pray specifically that you would grow both in understanding and that your life would more and more reflect that understanding.
