Proverbs 15:4 – Verse of the Day 6/26/13
This proverb concludes a series of similar ones dealing with wise speech. This material begins with an introductory statement that sets the stage: “Wisdom reposes in the heart of the discerning and even among fools she lets herself be known” (14:33). A person’s speech is a measure of that person’s wisdom, and here in 15:4 the speech of a wise person can even heal the destruction created by foolish evil speech.
As you pray, consider that God in creation spoke the world into existence (“Let there be…”). In a similar way, God declares sinners to be righteous on the basis of Christ’s life and death in our place, and Jesus himself was the “Word made flesh” (John 1:14). As you reflect on these wonderful truths ask that the Lord would make you wise and conform your speech to his own perfect Word.
