Proverbs 19:21 – Verse of the Day 10/31/14
Do you ever think about what you want your life to look like in five for ten years? What do you hope to accomplish? How do you hope to grow? What do you hope to learn? The Bible teaches us that the wise person thinks about the future and lives with a purpose.
Similarly, this section of the Proverbs consists of instructions for raising children, and this verse is part of those instructions. The author teaches us that the Lord’s wisdom is often different from our natural desires. While we might make many plans for our lives and our children, the only ones that succeed in the end are those plans that are shaped by God’s teaching in His word. Therefore, the wise person will seek first to obey the Lord and make plans for life on that foundation.
What plans have you made for your life, both in the short and long term? Have you considered how these plans fit with God’s commands in the Bible? Spend some time in prayer, laying your plans, goals, and dreams before the Lord. Ask Him to convict your heart and show you areas where your plans do not reflect his desires. Ask Him for the willingness to direct your life according to wisdom based on His will revealed in Scripture.
