Psalm 107:1 – Verse of the Day 11/17/14
Has anyone ever asked you to give a specific example of something? Even when we know with certainty that something is true, it is often hard for us to think of specific examples that demonstrate or prove it.
Sometimes the love of God is like that. We know that God loves us, but we often don’t stop to think about specific examples of His love for us or His care for us in the past. This verse is from the psalm that opens the last section of the entire book of Psalms. The people of Israel sang it as a song of thanksgiving when they offered their sacrifices to God in the temple, and it is all about the goodness of God. This verse praises God for His loving acts in general, but the rest of the song and the book of Psalms remember specific acts of God. God fills us with hope and thankfulness by calling us thank Him both generally and specifically.
As you spend some time in prayer, reflect on specific was that God has provided for you. As you remember specific sins, ask the Lord to forgive you and consider His great mercy and love in promising to do so. God’s love is steadfast and endures forever! Praise Him and give Him thanks!
