Psalm 119:165 – Verse of the Day 5/17/13

Psalm119-165

In this penultimate stanza of Psalm 119’s magnificent tribute to the Law of God, the psalmist assumes an overwhelmingly personal tone. In these verses, the psalmist’s “heart trembles” at the law (161), its promises cause him to “rejoice” (162), it is a motivation to praise (164), and here in this verse it is a source of peace and stability. It is this peace and stability that undergirds the psalmist’s pledge of obedience in the final three verses of the stanza.

The Law is simultaneously a curse to those without faith in Christ and a blessing to those who have been saved by grace. It is a blessing from God and the way to satisfaction. Our attitude to God’s law is a good barometer for the state of our own hearts. Spend some time in prayer thanking God for the gift of His Law and asking for a heart that loves it, seeks peace in it, and takes stability from it.
