Psalm 14:7 – Verse of the Day 10/26/14
One of the most amazing things about the one true God of the Bible is that He makes us part of His family. Whereas most “gods” of other religions are distant and impersonal, the Christian God adopts us as his children and gives us a relationship with Him.
Psalm 14 helps us to understand this reality. The song begins with verses about the folly of the fallen human heart and the consequences of disobeying God. Throughout the song, the Psalmist does not use the generic word for God (“Elohim”) but instead the personal name that God gave to Moses (“Yahweh”) when He appeared in the burning bush. God gives His name to those He loves, He allows us to know Him, and He points the way to true life through faith in Him. The psalmist teaches us that the wise person believes Him and follows Him.
God alone is the true source of wisdom. Spend some time in prayer asking forgiveness for ways in which you seek wisdom in ways that are contrary to God’s desires, and praising God for his amazing love in revealing Himself to us in order that we might know the truth. Thank Him for his presence in your heart, and ask Him to help you grow in wisdom as you grow in your relationship with Him.
