Psalm 19:8 – Verse of the Day 10/16/14
When people speak of someone who seems “enlightened,” they usually mean a person who sees the truth. Often this means a person with education, experience, or a naturally quick mind.
The Bible does not look down on any of those things, but it places the priority elsewhere. In Psalm 19, true enlightenment comes from believing and following the commands of the Lord. Not only does this lead to enlightenment, but it leads to joy too. The Bible always connects the mind and the heart. Believing the truth is the only path to true and lasting satisfaction.
Spend some time thanking God for the gift of His word. Pray that you would believe in your heart that His precepts are right, that His commandments are pure, and that they enlighten our eyes. Ask God for the willingness to believe Him in a day and age where there is increasing pressure to look to other sources for our core beliefs. Most of all, rejoice that the God who created us has made Himself known to us.
