Psalm 56:3 – Verse of the Day 7/1/14
Imagine being caught in the middle of a really bad storm. What do you think would be the scariest thing about it?
While it would be easy to point to individual things like dangerous winds, loud thunder, or being struck by a lightning bolt, usually we are able to take cover from these things because we know the storm will pass. One of the scariest things about a really bad storm is that it seems like it just keeps coming and coming. In fact, usually the scariest storms are the ones that seem like they will never end. We are most fearful when we don’t know how things will turn out.
David wrote this psalm when he was completely surrounded by his enemies. As he looked around, he didn’t know how things would turn out. And yet, in this verse, he simply states his trust in God. He knows that one way or another, whether in this life or the next, God will save him eternally from his enemies. As a result, he is able to withstand the fear that otherwise would have crushed him. He patiently waits for God to be faithful to His promise to protect him. Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to give you the same trust that leads to patient endurance when you are faced with difficult circumstances.
