Romans 10:17 – Verse of the Day 4/15/14
We live in a world where seeing is everything. Seeing is believing, some people say. The funny thing is, the person in the Bible who most famously had to “see it to believe it” we remember as “Doubting Thomas.” Why do you think this is?
Maybe one reason is that the Bible understands that seeing really isn’t believing. After all, there were many people who saw Jesus’ miracles, and they didn’t believe. Maybe there is something more to faith than seeing.
In fact, this verse teaches us something very important. While our faith is reasonable, and it should be based on evidence, it is much more than that. Faith isn’t just information or familiarity, but a sense of trust that can only come from the Holy Spirit when we hear the truth about what Jesus did in both his life and through his death on the cross.
Pray that the Lord would give you a soft heart, ready to hear the Gospel message of forgiveness through faith in Jesus, and that you would trust it with all your heart. Pray that you would willingly repent of your sin and seek forgiveness through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus for your sake. Thank God that He not only has made that provision, but that He has also called you to hear and believe it!
