Romans 15:13 – Advent Verse of the Day 12/1/13
In verse 4, Paul previously attributed the source of Christian hope to the work of the Scriptures, and here he assigns it to the work of the Holy Spirit. There is a close connection between the Bible and the Holy Spirit, and Paul’s point is that it is proper to see their work as connected and inseparable. For Paul, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, who is Himself the Word of God made flesh. God Himself is the source of our hope.
God is the source of our hope, and one of the chief way that he communicates this hope to us is through His Holy Spirit as we read His word and hear it preached to us. As you pray, ask the Lord to give you a heart that longs for His word so that you may experience and enjoy the hope that God has promised to us.
