Romans 6:5 – Verse of the Day 11/21/14
If you could get away with doing anything you wanted, do you think it would be a good idea to do anything you wanted? When we think about all the things we could get away with, our first response might be to say “yes!” At the same time, when we think about it a little more we realize that even if we can get away with something in the eyes of others, our actions still have consequences for ourselves.
Romans 6:1-14 is an extended answer to the question, “Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?” Paul’s answer was simple: “No!” We have not been saved just so that we can get away with doing whatever we want, but because God has saved us from a life that leads to death in order to give us a way that leads to life.
The Christian life does not stop when we are saved through faith, but rather is one of constant growth in Christian maturity. We have not only been saved from sin, but also saved for life. True life comes through the pursuit of obedience motivated by gratitude for the gift of salvation. Spend some time in prayer asking God to give you the desire to daily grow more and more into His image.
