Romans 6:5 – Verse of the Day 7/4/13
Romans 6:1-14 is an extended answer to the question, “Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?” It is not entirely clear whether this was merely a hypothetical question or whether some group in the church in Rome was actually arguing that they should sin more so that God would show more grace. Either way, Paul’s answer was simple: “No!” Paul’s reason was also simple: just as Jesus was raised from death to life so also we have been raised from the death of sin to a “new life” (6:4) because we have been united to him.
The Christian life does not stop when we are saved through faith, but rather is one of constant growth in Christian maturity. We have not only been saved from sin, but also saved for life. True life comes through the pursuit of obedience motivated by gratitude for the gift of salvation. Spend some time in prayer asking God to give you the desire to daily grow more and more into His image.
