Titus 3:5 – Verse of the Day 8/29/13

This verse is wedged in the middle of a series of ethical instructions.  Although we are called to do good works, the point is that we should not be confused and think that these good works are signs of a righteousness that comes from ourselves, but rather it is the gift of God.  The reason for this is that God has given us a twofold gift:  first, a new birth; second, a new life that grows out of that new birth by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We have been saved solely by God’s grace, and God calls us to live according to our salvation.  Spend some time thanking God for the gift of His grace in saving us eternally from our sin, and pray that your heart would indeed be changed by this reality and that you would long to serve and live for Him.
