The Difference Between Justification and Sanctification: the Epistles Q&A Series

In Buck Denver Asks … What’s in the Bible? – Volume 12: Letters from Paul! [Romans through Philemon], creator Phil Vischer teaches many of the key concepts found in Paul’s epistles, including the difference between justification and sanctification.

As he explains in the video, Vischer found that by trying to teach those important concepts to elementary school children, he ended up learning them in a deeper, more meaningful way.

“You unpack it at a level you probably never have before,” he said.

Vischer explained that while justification is a one-time “label change” – where your label is changed from “sinful” to “righteous” in God’s eyes because you believe in what Jesus did on the cross, sanctification is a life-long process of becoming more like Christ.

“It was really important to see the difference between justification and sanctification,” Vischer said, because those ideas are key to understanding what it really means to be a Christian, a follower of Christ.

“And to go through the exercise of really explaining those in detail – it impacted my life too,” Vischer said.
