Question 2: Was Jesus Really Born on Christmas?

Get the Full Version

Was Jesus really born on Christmas?

Ian
Was Jesus really born on Christmas day? That’s quite a coincidence, don’t you think?

Clive
We don’t actually know which day Jesus was born on – no one bothered to write it down at the time. December 25th is the day Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. Before Jesus, Romans had wild parties on December 25th to celebrate the passing of the shortest day of winter and the return of more sunshine. Some were actually worshiping the sun!

Ian
They worshiped a big ball of gas?

Clive
I know – it’s crazy! As more and more Romans started believing in Jesus, they stopped worshiping the sun in the sky on December 25th, and began using that day instead to celebrate the son of God! Jesus!

Ian
So we don’t really know when Jesus was born.

Clive
When he was born isn’t nearly as important as that he was born and lived and died so that we can live with God forever!

Ian
That’s worth celebrating! I have another question.

Clive
Save it for tomorrow.
