1 Peter 2:24 – Verse of the Day 8/4/14

Have you ever tried to kick a bad habit? No matter how small or insignificant the habit, it is still almost always pretty difficult to leave it completely. While it may not be easy, it usually helps if you not only try to quit the bad habit but also try to replace the bad habit with a good one.

In a similar way, the Bible teaches us that we are always slaves to something, whether it is sin or righteousness. One path leads to death and the other leads to life. The only way to leave the path that leads to death is to take up the path that leads to life. Jesus bore the curse for our sin on the cross not only to save us from sin and death but also to give us life and righteousness. We were not able to lose the old habit or gain the new one on our own, so we needed a savior.

What kind of God would bear the curse for sin in order to save a people who had rejected Him? How gracious, merciful, and loving our God is! Spend some time in prayer praising and thanking God for what He has done for us. Jesus died for us that we might also die to sin and live to righteousness!
