1 Thessalonians 5:23 Verse of the Day 11/20/13

This blessing comes towards the very end of Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians. They had raised many concerns about the nature of Jesus’ second coming, and Paul answered their concerns by writing this letter. Therefore, it makes sense that he would choose this particular blessing to close his letter. We do not know when Jesus will return, but we await his second coming with great hope and confidence because we know that the Lord will enable us to persevere in faith until he returns to make us perfect and bring us into eternal life.

As you pray, ask the Lord to help you to balance the desire that he would return to make all things right with a willingness to believe and live according to His promises in the meantime. Ask for the faith to believe that Jesus will return soon, and the simultaneous desire to live diligently as you wait, as if his return is a long way off. Most of all, pray that your faith in the Lord would lead you to trust in Him.
